New expansions are on the way for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and while the focus for this DLC is on festivals, cultural exchanges, and going beyond the borders of the Paldea region, there’ll also be new Pokemon to acquire. Hundreds of pocket monsters will be migrating over to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as Nintendo has confirmed that over 230 creatures from older Pokemon games can be obtained in The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disc expansions.
For anyone looking to complete their Pokedex in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, this new influx of critters will make the quest that much more challenging. Currently, there are 400 Pokemon to acquire, and catching all of them requires doing a significant amount of trading to get all the version-exclusive Pokemon. For Part 1, players can expect to encounter Shiftry, Vikavolt, Chingling, Ninetails, Yanma, and Milotic, while Part 2 will see wild Dewgong, Metagross, Espurr, Alcremie, Zebstrika, and Whimsicott roaming the land.
These are the only ones known of so far, but the good news is that if you’ve built up a sizable collection over the years through other Pokemon games, then you’ll be able to make the task of filling up your Pokedex easier when Pokemon Home functionality is added to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet later this year.
Of course, you’ll still need to do some trading to get completed Pokedex bragging rights when the expansions launch, as Part 1 will introduce five new legendary Pokemon. Ogerpon is unique to Pokemon Scarlet and Terrapagos can only be found in Pokemon Violet, while Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti will appear in both games.
In other Pokemon news, a new stop-motion animation Pokemon series is in development and will premiere on Netflix, Pokemon Sleep will finally arrive this year, and the original Pokemon trading card game is being revived.
