E3 2023 has been canceled, but there are a number of big-time summer gaming shows coming up, beginning with Sony’s PlayStation Showcase on May 24. Events from Microsoft, Ubisoft, and other companies will follow in June and beyond. Naturally, not everything stays a secret. In this post, we’re rounding up some of the leaks and rumors we’ve come across so far.
We will keep updating this story over time and will add more information as it comes to light. Bear in mind, too, that we have not been able to independently confirm these rumors, so be sure to take all of this information with a grain of salt for the time being.
One of the rumors previously reported on, a new Mortal Kombat game, was officially confirmed this week as Mortal Kombat 1. The game launches this September.

Summer Game Show Rumors
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Activision has already confirmed that a new Call of Duty game is coming this year, but what is it? And when will it be announced? According to reports, 2023’s new Call of Duty game is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with development led by Sledgehammer.
The game is rumored to launch in November, with multiple beta periods and a campaign early access release coming before the official launch date. It’s believed to have multiplayer, campaign, and Zombies. A report said Activision might reveal the game in August, potentially via an in-game teaser campaign in Warzone 2.0. Historically, Call of Duty games have been announced in May, but the playbook very well may have changed this time.
Konami’s Metal Gear, Silent Hill, and Castlevania
According to a report from VGC, Konami is gearing up for some “pretty big” reveals this summer during the time that was going to be occupied by E3 before the show was canceled. What’s on tap? The report suggests the long-rumored Metal Gear Solid 3 and a Snake Eater revival could be announced.
Konami might have a new Castlevania to announce this summer, reports have suggested, while Konami’s Silent Hill is confirmed to be coming back with at least three games: Silent Hill: Ascension, Silent Hill: Downfall, and Silent Hill: F. There is also a Silent Hill 2 remake in the works. Could we see more of these games this summer? We sure hope so.
Spider-Man 2 Coming This September?
The PlayStation Showcase coming up on May 24 will focus on PS5 games, and with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 poised to be one of Sony’s biggest games of the year, we’d expect it will get some attention. The latest rumor is that it will launch this September, and the PlayStation Showcase could be a venue for a release date announcement.
Persona 3 Remake
Another rumor for this year is that Atlus will announce a Persona 3 remake during the Xbox Games Showcase in June. The game has reportedly been in development for several years already, and it could finally be formally announced this year.
According to reports that have been circulating for some time, Nintendo might be working on a new, more powerful console. Details are thin at the moment, but one research firm believes the new console might launch near the end of 2024. Nintendo rarely, if ever, comments on future hardware plans, but the company has confirmed it has no new hardware coming until April 2024 at the soonest.
